Overview

This is ultimate adventure; private safari in Uganda’s most amazing National Parks. We explore Uganda from East, North, West, South and Central. A visit to Pian Upe and Kidepo Valley in Northeast Uganda, Kidepo Valley is possibly the only national park left in the whole continent where you can have the park all to yourself. This park teems with wildlife and must have been like safaris in Kenya 35 years ago before the arrival of mass tourism! A whole day drive to Murchison falls national park. This park lies at the Northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the sweeping Bunyoro escarpment tumbles into vast, palm-dotted savanna; it is Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area. The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating the dramatic Murchison Falls. Have a 1-2hour rhino tracking at Ziwa rhino sanctuary before heading to your lodge for overnight.

Unfortunately, the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is the only place where one can spot Rhinos in Uganda. Uganda once had over 1000 Rhinos roaming freely in the open plains. Extensive poaching wiped them out from the national parks. When less than 5 remained in the wild, they were transferred to this sanctuary for greater protection. The sanctuary now has about 20 individuals and there is a plan to transfer them to the national parks once their numbers grow. The Ziwa Rhino sanctuary is a large facility with amazing opportunities for nature walks, birding and primates viewing. As you tour the facility, you will be in the company of researchers and game rangers who will share with you all that you need to know about Rhinos. Lunch is served immediately before or after touring the sanctuary. After, you will then continue your journey to Murchison falls National Park.

The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience to be long savored. Many find it to be a rare and moving opportunity. The tracking can take place at Nkuringo, buhoma or at Rushaga (1 hr. drive from Nkuringo), as per the gorilla permits obtained.

If time permits, Wildfriends Africa Safaris guide will explore you to the village around to engage in some cultural interaction with the Batwa pygmies. The Batwa tribe was forced to leave their home in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in 1991 when it was declared a UNESCO Heritage site for gorillas only. They had been living in the forest as nomadic hunter-gatherers for millennia, in perfect balance with the flora and fauna around.

Moving out and suddenly living in communities with a completely different way of life has proven to be a huge challenge.
