This 3 Days Uganda Safari takes you to Semuliki National Park, a park dominated by the easternmost extension of the great Ituri Forest of the Congo Basin. Sprawling across the floor of the Semuliki Valley on the remote, western side of the Rwenzori, Semuliki National Park is a rewarding destination with incredible wildlife including both savanna wildlife and forest dwellers including chimpanzees. Take an excursion to the Sempaya hotsprings, visit the crater lakes in Fort Portal, enjoy night game drives and visit the local population of the Batwa pygmy community that originated from the Ituri plus a boat cruise on Lake Albert.

Tour Itinerary

Depart from Kampala to Semuliki to Bundibugyo. Bring to a halt in Fort Portal for lunch and check out the fast growing town and later take on a fascinating guided walk through the crater lakes area and visit to Amabeere Ga Nyinamwiru caves and Nyakasura waterfalls.

Later, proceed to Semuliki National Park - sit back and enjoy the striking scenes of the Western Albertine rift valley as you drive to Bundibugyo town. Semuliki National Park is next to western border of Uganda and Congo Republic next to Lake Albert and covers the eastern part of the Ituri forest joining Uganda and Congo River separated by the Semuliki River. Semuliki is an ornithologist’s haven having about 400 bird species mostly forest birds. There are 300 tree species recorded nowhere else in East Africa and 53 mammal species with 11 endemic species to the park including the pygmy antelopes and two flying squirrel species. It is also home to the peculiar water chevrotain, known as the ‘fanged deer’.

During the night, go for a spot lit night game drive, only one of its kind in Uganda and check out the slender and white- tailed mongoose, serval cats and diminutive nightjars.

After your early morning breakfast, go straight for a game drive in a park that is home to forest elephants and buffaloes which are smaller versions of their savannah-dwelling relatives. It is also a home to over 53 mammal species of which 27 are large mammals, 11 are endemic to the park including the pygmy antelopes and two flying squirrel species. It is also home to the peculiar water chevrotain known as the ‘fanged deer’

Late afternoon go for a boat trip on Lake Albert, an exceptional lake in its own right for amazing opportunity. Check out the water animals and look-out for birds like Northern Bearded Scrub-Robin, Capped Wheatear, Common Stonechat, Abyssinian Ground-Thrush, Oberlaender’s Ground-Thrush, Grey Ground-Thrush and Little Grey Greenbul among others.

Enjoy breakfast and head off We will begin with the most eye-catching item in Semuliki, the Sempaya hot springs. These natural springs have a geyser shooting up from an 8m-wide hole at a hot temperature.  It’s the largest of its kind in the country. Along the same trail, you can recognize quite a number of bird species like blue –breasted kingfisher and Frasier’s ant-thrush and primates like the grey-checked mangabey and red-tailed monkey. Continue to Mungilo waterfall and see more attractive birds specially if you are a bird.

Drive to Kampala with a stopover in Fort Portal for lunch then continue to Kampala
